The use of symbols and strings for me is very important, because I’m human, and words help me more than pure numbers. The data could be numbers, notes, characters, words, symbols, strings. And then you can simply manipulate the data and access every single item with specified objects. In Max there a different ways to create and store lists, but the easiest way is just to type a list in a message box. But they are not very intuitive, you have to perform a number of steps to get started, and when you wanna change the table later, your data might be lost. List handling is very poor in Reaktor, you can do this by using event-tables. In max you just have a simple comment object, you can resize, change and color the text, similar to a text editor. In Reaktor there are some work-arounds, in core, I used empty core cells and renamed them as a comment. My very, very personal main reasons to start with max were:Ī main paradigm for programmers, to understand your work after re-opening your ensemble after a while. So every note made here is at the level of 5.9.x, and i wish, they were obsolete.

The reason, why I started with max, came along with the hard times of waiting for an update on Reaktor 6, which I haven’t installed yet, but I will probably at some point. So, why did I "switch" from Reaktor to Max? And furthermore, you can connect Reaktor and Max together and let them make what they can do at their best. To make it clear, there is no better or worse software. And it took me half a year to finish my first installation in max, but I´m still learning. I taught max myself with the help of the build-in (step-by-step) tutorials and documentation and with 3rd-parties companions on the web (there a plenty). And if you limit your application to pure synthesis and great sound, Reaktor is a very good choice and there is no need to learn max. In the field of sound-synthesis Reaktor is very powerful, good-sounding, has got a comprehensible library of synths, filters and modules.
